Tree Adoption Uganda’s Run4Climate, a flagship event under the Running out of Trees (ROOTS) campaign is set to take center stage at the National Council of Sports Hockey Grounds in Lugogo, Kampala on the 29th of June, 2025 under the theme: “Our Environment, Our Future.”

The ROOTS campaign is part of the Government of Uganda initiative under the Ministry of Water and Environment with an aim of planting 40 million trees a year with each tree representing a Ugandan. This year, the Run will be in its fifth edition having previously been held in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Run was not held in 2021.

The ROOTS campaign was launched by the Government of Uganda to address the declining forest cover and restore Uganda’s natural landscapes by planting 200 million trees over a period of 5 years. It is through initiatives like the Run4Climate that the realization of such objectives are being met.

Over the years, the Run4Climate has seen surges in both participation by Government agencies, International agencies and Organizations the public sector, the private sector and even individuals. From as low as 400 participants in the inaugural run in 2020, it has grown in leaps and bounds with the latest edition in 2024 featuring over 1,200 participants.

It goes without saying that excluding the sky-rocketing number of participants, the impact of the Run4Climate has also been felt over the years which explains why it has registered lots of success. Some of these successes include but are not limited to: planting 30,000 trees in the climate ravaged areas of Bududa for the first edition and restoring degraded landscapes by planting over 200,000 trees in the past three editions.

This year’s Run4Climate is targeting restoration of over 200 acres of degraded landscapes by planting over 200,000 trees. This will go a long way in ensuring that degraded landscapes are given a facelift and tree cover is restored.

A ticket for the Run4Climate goes for only Shs. 25,000 and this also comes along with a running kit. Payments can be made on MTN Merchant code: 170760 registered in the name Tree Adoption Uganda and Airtel Merchant Code: 4335850 registered in the name Tree Adoption Uganda.
